During the Black History Month we celebrate very specially the African American contributions to the Catholic Church and vice versa. The celebration will also commemorate the African American catholic saints and church leaders. The Black History Month celebration at St. Joseph Catholic Church began under the leadership of Father John Kennedy. It initially was a month-long celebration with an opportunity to share the historical achievements of African Americans with all parishioners. However, the celebration was shortened because of Lent and is celebrated on the second Sunday in February each year and culminates with a potluck luncheon where everyone participates.
